The Bridge Inn, Littlehempston, 1909

The Bridge Inn (now The Pig and Whistle) on the Totnes Road (A381), in Littlehempston. A steam traction engine is shown, with a cart filled with stones (for Buckfast Abbey). Joan Hutchings (later Hawkins) is shown in the foreground, aged 3. The pub was originally a blacksmith's shop which later moved behind the inn, also with a stable and cottage. The short length of wall to the left of the iron gate could still be identified in 2024.
