Gatcombe Mill House, Littlehempston c1930 In 1917 the Hutchings family move across the road from the Bridge Inn to Gatcombe Mill which they rented from the Duke of Somerset. The parish boundary ran through the yard, so the house was in Littlehempston, most other buildings and the mill in Berry Pomeroy. Mrs Hutchings wanted her children to grow up in something better than a pub and in any case was more used to a farming life.
