It began as the Evening Institute in the early days of the war. This was arranged by Mr Phillips who was a master at Redworth School and went on for about twelve months. Then formed into a Youth Club by forming a management committee and “lived in Redworth School. After Mr Phillips left Mr.H.Jeffrey took over Frank Heath took over as Leader and the club grew very fast – around the 150 members mark. The moved under a more active man and Mr Cook took the leadership. In 1947 they decided it was time to have their own premises and spent twelve months going around hoping to raise monies. Having raised enough money for their own building it was built entirely by voluntary labour over a period of approx. two years, under the supervision of Tom Heath, father of Frank. Mr Chown restored the membership to about 80. Robert Coish was chosen to represent the club and the county to take a message to the Duke of Gloucester, president of the National Association of Boys Clubs.
