Entrance hall of Higher Allerton, Dartington, 1900

The photograph was sent in a letter from John Bagwill Plumer in July 1900 to P.F.S Amery, who was interested in photographing old oak carving. Plumer had lived at Allerton since at least 1871 and was still there, with his wife Jessie Thomson, in the 1901 Census. Allerton later became the home of the Kellock family. Plumer was the brother-in-law of the Mayor, T C Kellock (image EDW 0064). The house is also shown in image KJ 0017. It was listed as Grade II by English Heritage on 9 February 1961. From the Edward Windeatt/Fabyn Amery Collection and lent for scanning by the Devon Records Office.
