Cudlipps at Longcombe, 1920s
Edith (Edie) Cudlipp, in the 1920s, is shown with her nephew, young Gordon Challoner, the son of Gordon and Charlotte (born Cudlipp). Gran & Aunt Edie did teas and served home-made lemonade, as well as good crisps. (The sign for 'Teas' can be seen in the window behind her.) Edie refused to alter the cottage at Longcombe or modernise it in any way. She still used a bucket in the garden as a toilet and had no piped water or electricity. She died in 1978, aged 79.
