(this image rescanned larger size) Widening of Bridgetown Hill. Ministry of Transport Scheme cost approx £5000. This scheme proposed in 1923. 30ft carriageway, 5ft grass margin with trees, 5ft pathway adjacent, land wall 4ft high. C & O Caunter on lorry. 1931 work commenced on the widening of Bridgetown Hill. Tender accepted from W.H.Smith & Co, Bristol and Torquay for £4925 (Highest bidder being £9241) The properties of Lt Col F.K. Windeatt was awarded £197 17s 6d + £35 towards costs (£390 claimed) and Duke of Somerset £156 + £37 towards costs (£565 claimed). Before the road widening and lighting of Bridgetown Hill, many accidents occurred on this road, some fatal. DP BOX 01
